Fourteen Days.

Uganda!

It is hard to believe we have already been here for two weeks. I can’t even begin to explain to you how full my heart is at this moment. I have been dreaming of the day that I could introduce my husband to the people I have grown to love so dearly, and it has finally happened!

I am continually thankful and grateful for the opportunity to serve with Show Mercy in Uganda. The SMI base has been very active since we arrived! We currently have 4 interns serving with us who will be here through August. During the past two weeks we have said hello and goodbye to two separate teams (a SMI Awaken to Love team and a team of 16 from Chicago). We will have a quiet month of August before welcoming a medical missions team arriving the beginning of September.

Nelson has been busy getting adjusted to life in Uganda. He has been having a great time getting to know our incredible staff as well as experiencing many of our outreaches. The children adore him. I’ve been enjoying work as well. My job functions much better being here in Uganda (aside from power outages and internet challenges). I am able to write with passion as I am here witnessing things first-hand. It’s also just a great reminder of WHY I do what I do. Seeing people’s lives transformed before my very eyes inspires me greatly. Meanwhile, I have no doubt that our lives are being transformed as well.

We are both LOVING the beautiful weather here. Seriously…it’s perfect. We have been working on learning Luganda (the language spoken in our region), which we are slowly picking up. Nelson already has a good Ugandan tan, although I can’t say the same for myself. : ]

It’s evening here (and morning there). The sun sets around 7:30 every night followed by a chorus of bugs lulling us towards sleep. We are incredibly thankful for all of the support we have received. Thank you all for your prayers and encouragement. We appreciate you.

With that, I will say ‘sula bulungi’ to you all (Good Night).

  1. Hello Dear Ones: My heart was swelling with pride as I read your blog, and my eyes were filled with tears, as I looked at the pictures. I can’t begin to imagine what the two of you are experiencing. We’re happy to hear that things are going well and that you both are enjoying what you are doing. I’m sure everyone loves both of you!! We ask God daily, to Bless you and keep you safe. Think of you often and love you both lots and lots! Prayers: Connie, Rick and Family
