The overdue well update.

Life has been a whirlwind since our return to Uganda this past February. However, we do owe you an overdue update on the clean water well you helped to build!

Shortly after we returned, the well company was able to finally finish the well by installing the pump. Before they do that, they do a series of tests to check the water quality, pump effectiveness, among other essential things. The well is close to 200 feet deep.

The day they finished the pump, we ventured over to make sure everything was as we had discussed with the company. The men had just finished their tests and were packing up to leave. Once they pulled away we were able to enjoy a wonderful moment. As we were testing out the pump, we noticed a young woman running down the hill toward us. She was carrying FIVE jerry cans (the cans they use in Uganda to fetch water, four of which were 20L cans – equal to 40 lbs. each when filled with water). She was smiling ear to ear. The closer she got she started saying, “Thank you, Thank you. May God bless you!” We then had the opportunity to pump the water for her to fill up each and every one of her jerry cans. The young woman’s name was Rachel. She went on to say that she was excited that she no longer has to boil the water to drink it.

THIS is the impact of clean water. Clean water meant this young woman no longer had to worry about catching disease from the water she was drinking, bathing and cooking with. Not only that, but you also have to account for the amount of time each day she spent fetching water and boiling it for use. Can you even imagine?

That was a moment we will forever remember. I am so thankful that God gave us the opportunity to experience that moment with Rachel. This well was never our idea, it was and always has been God’s work. He deserves all of the glory. However, we can’t help but feel incredibly blessed by all of you. We had many people partner with us and Show Mercy International to make this well happen. This is why we are sharing this joy with you. Thank you for choosing to make a difference in the lives of people living in Uganda.

There is still a chance for you to invest into this project and into future clean water projects through Show Mercy International. To make a tax deductible donation, CLICK HERE (select clean water from drop down menu and mention ‘Micek’ in the comments).
